Voter’s Identity Cards to be linked with Aadhaar Card in Maharashtra

Maharashtra state govt seems to be very ahead in implementation of Aadhaar Card. Maharashtra Electoral Office has planned to Link Voter’s Identity Cards with the Aadhaar Cards. Voter ID linking with UID will be efficient in removing bogus votes. Around 3,10,000 people in the Maharashtra state have registered for linking of their Aadhaar cards with the electoral photo identity cards (EPIC).

Only nearly 16,000 voters have got themselves registered till now from leading cities like Mumbai and Thane, an senior electoral officer in the state added. From Hingoli district and Kolhapur maximum numbers of voters have done registrations with 44,000+ each. Special camps for awareness of this purpose will be organized in colleges and important public places in future.

To make voters list more transparent, this step is being taken. There are around 84 lakh voters in Maharashtra state out of them around 44 Lac are male while around 4 million female while 1000 from others category. Currently more than 28 lac bogus voters are present in system which will be rectified by this process.

The voters who want to feed their Aadhaar numbers in the EC’s EPIC database using online mode, can log on to the State Election Commission website: . For offline registration and linking process they should head over to electoral registration offices.

In other news, education department of the state is making it mandatory for students to be registered in govt schools of state with their UID numbers. Without having the card, admission won’t be labelled as legit. This card will be proof if your kid is student or not. Weird, isn’t it !
