FG approves enhanced NIN slip, mobile app for ID card enrollment – Nairametrics

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has approved the development and publication of an improved National Identity Number (NIN) leaflet and mobile application.
This decision is seen as part of federal government policy to improve the process of obtaining the NIN and linking it to SIM cards, which was sent to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and to Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for implementation.

The disclosure was made by the technical assistant (information technology) to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Femi Adeluyi, in a press release on Thursday.
According to him, as part of efforts to support the federal government’s policy of linking subscribers’ NINs to their SIM cards, the N20 and N40 fees for verification of the NIN by individuals and mobile network operators, respectively, were also deleted.

The ministry’s statement reads in part: “The Honorable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, FNCS, FBCS, FIIM, approved the development and publication of an improved National Identity Number (NIN) slip and a mobile app. This is part of the federal government’s policy to improve the process of obtaining the NIN and linking it to the SIM, which has been sent to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Nigerian Communications Commission. âThe much anticipated Web Service Application (MWS), known as the NIMC Mobile App, and the enhanced National Identification Number (NIN) slip are now available for public use. The app provides a secure channel for all Nigerians and legal residents to easily verify and authenticate their identity on the go using smartphones. It also allows them to link the NIN to their phone numbers. The development of the app and other tools to support the National Identity Number (NIN) process aligns with the National Digital Economy Policy for a Digital Nigeria.

âThe app offers a built-in harmonization process that allows its use in other government departments, including the NCC, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Federal Road Safety Commission, and National Health Insurance Scheme, to name but a few. some.‘
On the other hand, the statement states that the new and improved TIN slip is a user-friendly and easy to verify version of the TIN. It also states that it is accessible through a self-service portal, where people who have already received the NIN can log in, download a PDF of the document in color (if preferred), print and laminate as they wish. The Current NIN sheet will remain valid and will be phased out.

What you should know
It can be recalled that the federal government ordered telecommunications operators to block all SIM cards that were not registered with NIN within 2 weeks of the announcement.
Following numerous public protests against the short deadline for the implementation of the policy, the federal government extended the deadline by 6 weeks.
