A voter ID card is one of the most important documents issued by the government. It is also known as an electoral card issued by the Election Commission of India. It serves as general proof of identity, address and age for other purposes such as passport application. It was first introduced in 1993 during the tenure of Chief Electoral Commissioner TN Seshan.

A voter ID card allows its holder to participate in elections and choose representatives who will govern the country, pass laws and administer the country, state or local body. The Indian Constitution gives all Indian citizens over the age of 18 the right to vote, with reasonable restrictions.

Here’s how to update your photo in the voter card:

• Visit the official Voter Service website https://www.nvsp.in/.
• Now choose the option “Correction of entries on the electoral rolls”.
• Then select “Form 8” and the form will open automatically.
• Select the name of the state, assembly, and constituency.
• Fill in all the information requested in the form, now click on the “Photograph” option.
• Enter your name, address and voter card number, as well as any other personal information.
• Now download the supporting documents from your computer. Upload your last passport-sized photo.
• Once the photo is uploaded, you will be asked to enter your email id, phone number, and the name of your location.
• Enter the date you are submitting this request.
• Click on the “Send” button.

You will receive a confirmation message on your registered mobile phone number and email id.

Now you can also request a duplicate card from the comfort of your own home and complete all the formalities without having to go to the electoral office each time.

The Election Commission of India has now introduced an online application process for duplicate voter ID cards in all states and union territories.
