Ms. Fashola revealed that the Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring the successful roll out of the card as she encouraged all registration officers to be proactive and show commitment towards achieving the registration of 100 residents per day.
She expressed confidence that the goal of registering 10 million residents before the end of the year can be achieved.
Speaking earlier at the event, the Managing Director of the Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASRRA), Engr. (Ms) Ibilola Kasunmu urged all staff and other stakeholders to be strong advocates for the ‘new’ Lagos ID card when it is finally unveiled.

What the General Manager of LASRRA says
Kasunmu, who said the workshop was held to explain the details of the project, said the main difference between the previously issued card and the new one to be unveiled is that the latter is a general-purpose smart card that meets the best international practices and will serve as a valid means of identification.
She said, “The card comes with a chip. Security is one of the features of the LAG ID Card 2.0 among others. The chip has multiple uses and can be accepted anywhere in the world. Also, you don’t need to carry the general-purpose card because the chip contains the information that will be used by the card. It has non-contact capabilities.‘
While stressing that the new initiative aligns with the smart city agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, Kasunmu said the concept is the first of its kind in West Africa and has not quick to declare that the “Unique LAG ID” should replace the old LASRRA number.

She also said, “The card has a validity period because it is a bank card and is renewable every five years. It has 25 other generic features that have been incorporated to ensure inclusive participation of all our ministries, departments and agencies. These generic applications will be customized to suit different MDAs according to their needs.’‘
The chief executive also revealed that the validation portal is live and described the Android app solution, which will make registration seamless and accessible via smartphones, as a work in progress.
