Man used 78-year-old Florida woman’s credit card to buy 11 Gibson Les Paul guitars, deputies say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Florida. – Volusia County Deputies are looking for a man accused of using a 78-year-old woman’s credit card to purchase items worth approximately $17,000, including 11 guitars.

Deputies said Mystery Shiloh Demarest, 49, gained access to the elderly victim’s bank card after he allowed the suspect to move into her home to help out as she cared for her ailing husband.

Demarest is wanted for robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card dating back to May 2019, when he originally moved in with the victim to help with household chores and errands, investigators say.

“A few days after (the victim) first gave Demarest his bank card to use at Publix, large packages began to appear at the house with Demarest’s name on them,” the sheriff’s office said.

According to investigators, Demarest told the victim that his girlfriend was responsible for the packages purchased and promised that he would return everything to her for a refund.

The victim then lost contact with Demarest and, after checking his bank statements, found 11 unreimbursed charges on GuitarAttic and Reverb.com, airfare charges, hotel room charges, and additional DeLand space storage of $318, the deputies said.

Volusia County deputies said they found 11 Gibson Les Paul guitars, 2 Marshall reverb boards, 7 large speakers, a drum set and several music stands in the DeLand storage unit purchased by Mystery Shiloh Demarest. (Volusia County Sheriff’s Office)
