Puri: District collector Jyoti Prakash Das informed this evening that the public order situation has returned to normal in the city and residents can enter through the other three gates of Srimandir after showing ID cards.
“Residents will be allowed through the other three gates of Srimandir after producing identity cards,” Das said after attending a five-member peace committee meeting this evening.
The Inspector General (IG), the Superintendent of Police and the delegates of the temple servants attended the meeting which was held under the chairmanship of Puri Collector.
Das also said that CCTV footage of all violence and vandalism was being examined by the police under the supervision of the IG and that a case in this regard would be filed with the police.
Strict measures will be taken against those found guilty, he added.
The law and order situation deteriorated today in the pilgrimage town during the 12 hour bandh called by members of Shree Jagannath Sena to protest the introduction of a queue system for the darshan of deities.
Protesters broke into the house of Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty and ransacked it. They also threw stones at the residence of Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi and vandalized the administration office of Shree Jagannath Temple (SJTA).
The police later had to organize a flag march in the city to maintain law and order.
